Apple Now Catering To The Severed Floor

The meme captures that rare moment when Windows fanboys felt superior to Apple users. When Apple introduced their fancy "Liquid Glass" UI theme, it was basically Windows Vista's Aero Glass interface that Microsoft had launched years earlier—you know, that transparent, glossy UI that made your CPU sweat. It's the tech equivalent of watching your hipster friend excitedly discover vinyl records in 2023. "Revolutionary design," says Apple. Meanwhile, Windows users are sitting there like, "We've been doing this since our operating system was universally mocked as unusable." The supreme irony? Vista was ridiculed into oblivion while Apple gets praised for essentially repackaging the same aesthetic. Classic tech industry amnesia at its finest.

When global RAM prices spike 20% but you've already been paying Apple's 800% markup for years, you don't even flinch anymore. You were forged in the fires of $400 for an extra 8GB. You were shaped by the darkness of non-upgradeable soldered memory. Regular PC users panic when RAM goes from $50 to $60, but Apple users? They simply exist in a higher plane of financial pain where the concept of "reasonable hardware pricing" is but a distant memory. The rest of the tech world complains about inflation while Apple users have been living in their own private economic crisis since the first unibody MacBook. At this point, paying obscene amounts for basic specs isn't a bug—it's a lifestyle choice.

OH. MY. GOD. The AUDACITY of these tech giants! 😱 Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Apple are all like "you will NOT have my data" while we're frantically scribbling our objections like some deranged privacy advocate. But then... BEHOLD! Gaben (aka Gabe Newell, the lord and savior of PC gaming and founder of Valve/Steam) appears, and suddenly we're all "TAKE MY DATA, TAKE MY WALLET, TAKE MY FIRSTBORN CHILD!" The hypocrisy is ASTRONOMICAL! We'll fight tooth and nail to keep our data from big tech, but the second Steam has a sale, we're throwing our credit cards at the screen faster than you can say "my poor bank account." The duality of geek-kind in its natural habitat!

Look, I've been in this industry long enough to see some wild takes, but asking if AirPods can translate between programming languages is genuinely next-level thinking. Like, if they can translate Spanish to English in real-time, why not Python to Rust? It's the same logic, right? Just different syntax trees passing through Bluetooth. The real tragedy here is that this would actually solve so many problems. Imagine talking to your legacy PHP codebase and having it come out as clean TypeScript. Or better yet, explaining your requirements in plain English and having them automatically translated to whatever cursed language your client insists on using. Someone get Apple on this. I'd pay $249 for AirPods that can translate my manager's feature requests into actual implementable code.

Content Example of GPT-4 visual input: User What is funny about this image? Describe it panel by panel. Source: https:www.reddit.comrhmmmcommentsubabSvhmmm GPT-4 The image shows a package for a "Lightning Cable" adapter with three panels. Panel 1: A smartphone with a VGA connector (a large, blue, 15-pin con- nector typically used for computer monitors) plugged into its charging port. Panel 2: The package for the "Lightning Cable" adapter with a picture of a VGA connector on it. Panel 3: A close-up of the VGA connector with a small Lightning con- nector (used for charging iPhones and other Apple devices) at the end. The humor in this image comes from the absurdity of plugging a large, outdated VGA connector into a small, modern smartphone charging port.

Content Tired of failing Data Science interviews for being a real Statistician, and not a CS tryhard Google 50 Yesterday Q 46 Comments I am a Statistician. I have a grad degree in Stats. Not a grad degree in Analytics or Physics or Computer Science, a grad degree in Stats. Biostats, Operations Research, and Econometrics are cool though. I build models properly. If you don't have a grad degree in Stats, your models suck. No two ways about it. There are dozens of things you don't know to test and control for, and your model is wildly inaccurate. Outside of CV and NLP, you are an absolute joke. You're a SWE? Good for you. But, that's a completely different skillset with little overlap. Akin to a Pharmacist performing surgery. I go to interviews with 'top' companies and get rejected for giving an answer that is too right. I explain it perfectly vs its alternatives and give all of the context needed. Then some SWE pretending to be a Statistician fails me because they don't know what I'm talking about, they want a crappy DL model because they don't have a clue. Apple, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, Linked OpenAl, etc. All have failed me in DS interviews despite perfect performances. All filled with CS tryhards. Even the HFTs are infested with CS dweebs who don't have a clue about DS. Sigma was asking me SWE questions in a Quant interview ffs. Google is my only option, there is nowhere else for me to go to be a real Statistician, believe me I've tried. Sucks knowing when you hit your ceiling and there is no alternative. Half of the Google DSs are now a joke too, have weaseled their way into convincing morons that they know what they are talking about. Sadly, these are the ones that politic into management and hire those of their ilk into the ranks in order to build their empires.
