The Musk-Guided Development Methodology

Content digital VAX 11/780 The Ticketmaster system is a hodge-podge of C and assembler and runs on ancient VMS hardware. The people who developed and maintained it are long since dead and/or retired. It has proven impossible to replace because nothing has been found that can handle thousands of simultaneous purchases as efficiently. The server room that houses the VMS machines has a room where a goat is left every two weeks. The next day, the goat is gone.

Congratulations, you've achieved what most developers only dream of: code so spectacularly terrible that it's literally AI-proof. While everyone else is panicking about GPT-5 taking their jobs, you're out here playing 4D chess with spaghetti code that would make any neural network have an existential crisis. The real power move here is realizing that your job security doesn't come from being good at your job—it comes from being so uniquely chaotic that even advanced artificial intelligence would look at your codebase and choose to become dumber rather than try to understand it. It's like creating an anti-pattern so powerful it becomes a defensive weapon. Honestly though, if your code can weaponize itself against AI, you might be simultaneously the worst and most secure developer on the planet. That's a weird flex, but okay.

The sheer audacity of asking ChatGPT to invert a binary tree in C++ while actual developers spent hours debugging pointer nightmares and memory leaks to master this! Tree inversion—flipping all nodes left to right—is that classic algorithm question that separates CS degree holders from Stack Overflow copypasters. Meanwhile, ChatGPT just spits out a perfect implementation without experiencing the character-building trauma of segmentation faults and midnight debugging sessions. The sacrifices we made learning manual memory management weren't just for someone to get the answer in 2 seconds from an AI!

So you spent a whole day testing out Claude Opus 4.6, the latest and greatest AI model that promises to revolutionize your workflow. You're excited about the performance gains, the improved reasoning, the cutting-edge capabilities. Then you check the API pricing and realize each request costs approximately one kidney. Welcome to the AI era where "state of the art" and "bankruptcy speedrun" are synonyms. Sure, you want the best performance for your application, but in terms of budget allocation, you have no budget allocation. Time to go back to GPT-3.5 and pretend those hallucinations are "creative features."

The eternal struggle between engineers and AI models continues! Someone drew the electrical engineering symbol for a JK flip-flop (a digital circuit component that stores binary data), but the neural network expected beach sandals. Classic case of domain-specific knowledge vs. general AI training. The machine learning model probably spent more time looking at vacation photos than circuit diagrams during training. Next time just draw a CPU with tiny umbrellas sticking out of it.

Yeah, so ChatGPT "helping" us code is like hiring an intern who writes beautiful documentation but ships code that only works on their machine. Sure, it cranks out that boilerplate in 5 minutes instead of 2 hours, but now you're spending an entire day debugging why it decided to use a deprecated library, mixed async patterns, and somehow introduced a race condition that only happens on Tuesdays. The real productivity boost is going from 6 hours of debugging your own mess to 24 hours of debugging someone else's mess that you don't fully understand. At least when I wrote the bug, I knew where to look. Now I'm reading AI slop trying to figure out why it thought nested ternaries were a good idea. But hey, at least the developer disappeared from the "after" picture. Maybe they finally got that work-life balance everyone keeps talking about. Or they're just crying in the server room.
