Bank asks "Reply Y or N" and someone just sends "Y" like a normal human being. System immediately has an existential crisis and can't parse a single character response. Classic case of overengineered validation logic that probably checks for "YES", "Yes", "yes", "Y", "y", "yeah", "yep", "sure", "ok" but forgot to actually handle the exact thing they asked for.
Somewhere in that codebase is a junior dev who wrote if (reply.toLowerCase().includes("yes")) and called it a day. Then QA just tested with full words because who would actually follow the instructions, right?
Banking systems: can handle millions of transactions per second, can't handle a Y.
