Understanding Women Is Hard

The dirty little secret of software development that nobody tells you in bootcamp: experience doesn't mean you've memorized the entire standard library. It means you've gotten really, really good at Googling. Senior devs aren't walking encyclopedias who can recite every method signature from memory. They're just better at knowing what to search for and recognizing the right answer when they see it. That syntax you used yesterday? Gone. The exact parameters for that function? Vanished into the void. The real skill isn't remembering whether it's Array.prototype.map() or .forEach() – it's knowing that both exist and which one you need right now. Then Googling the syntax anyway because who actually remembers if the index comes first or second in the callback.

The gradual descent into programming madness: First panel: Rust's clean, explicit entry point. Simple. Elegant. Second panel: C/C++'s classic int main(). Familiar territory. Third panel: Python's cryptic "__name__ == '__main__'" check that makes you question your life choices. Fourth panel: The existential crisis that follows when you realize you've been staring at different entry point syntaxes for so long that you've forgotten what sunlight feels like. The four horsemen of "how the hell do I start this program again?"

The sins of the parent codebase are visited upon the child. That poor kid was doomed from the moment mom decided arrays should start at 1 instead of 0. It's like being born into a family that puts milk before cereal – fundamentally wrong at the core level. Some programming traumas just get passed down through generations, and starting arrays at 1 is the equivalent of digital hereditary trauma. The kid never stood a chance.

Job security in the age of AI isn't about your coding skills—it's about clients who say "make it pop" and "you know what I mean" in the same breath. After 15 years of translating "I want something simple" into 47 database tables and a microservice architecture, I've realized our greatest defense against automation is clients who can't articulate what they want beyond "like Amazon but better." The day clients can write coherent requirements is the day I'll start worrying about AI taking my job.

Nothing quite captures that moment of pure existential dread like realizing you just ran DROP DATABASE on production instead of your sandbox environment. The cat's face is literally all of us – that split second when your soul leaves your body and you're mentally updating your resume while simultaneously wondering if anyone would notice if you just... disappeared forever. It's the digital equivalent of thinking you're practicing your golf swing but actually launching a ball through your neighbor's window. Except instead of breaking glass, you've just broken the entire company. Whoops!
