The PC hardware market is basically a self-destructive ouroboros at this point. Steam releases a new hardware category, and instead of celebrating innovation, the entire industry collectively panics and implodes like a poorly optimized recursive function with no base case. RAM prices skyrocket? Check. SSD manufacturers forming cartels? Check. Nvidia treating GPU pricing like it's a cryptocurrency bubble? Double check. And now Steam drops literally anything new into the ecosystem and suddenly manufacturers are cutting production, prices are collapsing, and everyone's wondering if they should've just stuck with console gaming. It's like the hardware industry has the stability of a production server running on untested code at 3 AM on a Friday. One small change and the whole thing goes down harder than a null pointer exception.

Gaming enthusiasts have zero chill when it comes to the Steam Deck's cuboid shape. The second Valve released their portable PC gaming device, the internet collectively decided it's just Gabe Newell (Valve's founder) trapped in a box. Now we can't unsee it—a sea of GabeCubes ready to invade our homes, bringing Steam sales directly to our couches. The perfect rectangular prison for a billionaire who just wants you to play Half-Life while sitting on the toilet.

Nothing says "tech evolution" quite like Valve contradicting themselves after nearly a decade. In 2017, Gabe Newell confidently declared wireless VR a "solved problem" while showcasing their wired headset. Fast forward to 2025, and suddenly they're like "Fine, we'll just build the wireless adapter ourselves" with that signature Valve time™ energy. The irony is delicious. Eight years to go from "it's solved" to "we're solving it now" is peak Valve – the same company that can't count to 3 for Half-Life but can take their sweet time reinventing what was supposedly already fixed.

Meta spent $13 billion on their "Horizon" metaverse and all they got was avatars that look like they were rendered on a potato. "Legs are coming soon!" is the kind of feature announcement you'd expect from a game in 2003, not something that cost twice Electronic Arts' annual revenue. At this rate, Mark's going to need another $50 billion just to add eyebrows that don't look haunted. Meanwhile, The Sims 3 from 2009 is over here with fully functioning humans that can already woohoo in hot tubs.

Game devs are literally SUFFERING in their own special circle of development hell, and here they are, sipping coffee while laughing at regular programming memes like "Ah yes, humor based on MY pain." The AUDACITY! While web devs cry about centering divs, game programmers are over here wrestling with physics engines that defy actual physics, optimizing 60 FPS on hardware from 2010, and explaining to art directors why no, we cannot actually make the character's hair have 10,000 individually simulated strands. But sure, laugh at the JavaScript joke, it's FINE. TOTALLY FINE. 😭

Non-developers: "Just make a simple 2D game." Game developers: *sweating profusely while implementing quad tree map rendering, spatial collision algorithms, concurrent state machines, object pools, reusable components, and realtime rewind* That moment when your "simple weekend project" requires six advanced computer science concepts and three mental breakdowns. The eternal gap between what people think programming is and the eldritch horror it actually becomes.
