Hollywood writers really think facial recognition works like a slot machine. The PM here wants the database search to simultaneously display hundreds of non-matching faces rapidly cycling on screen because apparently that's how computers "think." Meanwhile, the programmer is correctly pointing out this is computationally wasteful, terrible UX, and serves absolutely zero purpose beyond looking cool for the cameras.
In reality, a proper facial recognition system would just... return the matches. That's it. No dramatic slideshow of rejected candidates. The database query doesn't need to render every single non-match to your screen at 60fps. But try explaining that to someone who thinks "enhance" is a real function and that typing faster makes you hack better.
Fun fact: showing hundreds of random faces would actually slow down the search because now you're adding unnecessary rendering overhead to what should be a simple database query with image comparison algorithms. But hey, gotta make it look dramatic for the viewers at home!
