We call it the "Super League": The Software Engineering Super League is a 5-week hands-on program with 5 levels of engineering challenges - 2 individual challenges and 3 team challenges. One finalist will eventually be selected as a Software Engineer Intern at Lighthall, where they will work on real projects with guidance and training from the Lighthall team. All participants will build up their portfolio of projects and get valuable experience working in teams of engineers. The Software Engineering Super League will kick off on April 10th for its first challenge. At the end of each week, we will announce the participants who advance to the next stage of the competition. Ah, the evolution of programming languages depicted as weapons. Assembler is just a knife with a scope—precise but primitive. C gives you a hammer and a bullet—basic tools that get the job done. C++ is that AK-47 with a bayonet because why choose between shooting or stabbing when you can do both? And Python... well, Python is basically what happens when a 5-year-old builds a robot from random LEGO pieces and duct tape. Sure, it might fall apart, but somehow it still works better than your meticulously engineered solution.

Python errors are like a friendly golden retriever that gently tells you "Hey buddy, you forgot a colon on line 47!" while C++ errors are basically an eldritch horror creature screaming incomprehensible template metaprogramming gibberish at you about how you've violated seventeen different memory allocation rules and summoned demons into your codebase. And it won't even tell you which line number. The best part? The C++ error is probably just because you forgot a semicolon somewhere.

Not a grad degree in Analytics or Physics or Computer Science, a grad degree in Stats. Biostats, Operations Research, and Econometrics are cool though. I build models properly. If you don't have a grad degree in Stats, your models suck. No two ways about it. There are dozens of things you don't know to test and control for, and your model is wildly inaccurate. Outside of CV and NLP, you are an absolute joke. You're a SWE? Good for you. But, that's a completely different skillset with little overlap. Akin to a Pharmacist performing surgery. I go to interviews with 'top' companies and get rejected for giving an answer that is too right. I explain it perfectly vs its alternatives and give all of the context needed. Then some SWE pretending to be a Statistician fails me because they don't know what I'm talking about, they want a crappy DL model because they don't have a clue. Apple, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon, Linked OpenAl, etc. All have failed me in DS interviews despite perfect performances. All filled with CS tryhards. Even the HFTs are infested with CS dweebs who don't have a clue about DS. Sigma was asking me SWE questions in a Quant interview ffs. Google is my only option, there is nowhere else for me to go to be a real Statistician, believe me I've tried. Sucks knowing when you hit your ceiling and there is no alternative. Half of the Google DSs are now a joke too, have weaseled their way into convincing morons that they know what they are talking about. Sadly, these are the ones that politic into management and hire those of their ilk into the ranks in order to build their empires.
