Someone really said "type safety is for cowards" and went absolutely feral with the casting. They're casting (T)(object)value like they're performing dark magic rituals in the dead of night. Why cast to object first? Why not just cast directly to T? Because chaos, that's why. It's like taking off your seatbelt before putting on a different seatbelt. The compiler is screaming, the runtime is crying, and whoever wrote this was probably running on pure caffeine and desperation. And then—THEN—they return (T)(object)v at the end, doing the EXACT same cursed double-cast again. This is what happens when you're too tired to remember that generics exist for a reason and you just want the red squiggly lines to go away by any means necessary.
