The meme shows an interrogation room where the detective is basically asking the suspect if this magical concept of "future refactoring" is present—spoiler alert: IT'S NOT! It's the ULTIMATE developer fantasy, right up there with "documentation that's actually up-to-date" and "meetings that could've been emails." We keep pushing it off like that diet we're totally starting next Monday. Meanwhile, our code base is over there screaming in technical debt while we whisper sweet nothings about how we'll fix it "when we have time." HONEY, THAT TIME IS NEVER COMING!

Nobody tells you the truth in engineering school. We don't implement CI/CD because it's "industry best practice" or because some architecture astronaut said so. We do it for that sweet, sweet dopamine hit when all the build checks turn green. It's basically developer cocaine. The satisfaction of seeing five successful builds in a row might be the only thing keeping some of us from switching to careers in gardening.

The bell curve of programming wisdom hits hard. The junior devs (IQ 55-70) and senior wizards (IQ 130-145) both preach simplicity, while the middle-management types with their "it has to have all the features!!" are trapped in complexity hell. After 15 years in this industry, I've watched countless projects collapse under their own weight because someone insisted on cramming in every possible feature. The truly enlightened know that elegance comes from ruthless simplification. Voltaire nailed it centuries ago, and we're still learning this lesson the hard way with every new framework, library, and enterprise application. The cycle is eternal: build it simple, complicate it needlessly, then spend years refactoring back to simplicity.

Product manager: "The random function isn't random enough." Developer: "What does that even mean?" PM: "It needs to be more random. Make it randomier." The number of times I've had to explain that pseudorandom number generators are deterministic by design is directly proportional to my growing collection of gray hairs. Next they'll ask for the random function to generate numbers they personally like better.

The perfect excuse has finally arrived in the AI era. Just tell your manager "my code's generating" while Claude or GPT does the heavy lifting, and suddenly you're not scrolling Reddit—you're "waiting for computational processes to complete." Works every time. The best part? When the code finally arrives, you can just claim you wrote it and collect those sweet, sweet productivity points. Modern problems require modern solutions.

The corporate tech meeting from hell. Two folks suggest superficial fixes like "color theory" and "enhanced GUI" while the third person—clearly the only one who's ever shipped anything—dares to suggest maybe, just maybe, the team needs actual time to innovate instead of endless sprints. Of course, he gets thrown out the window. Because in tech, suggesting we slow down and build something good is basically treason. Six years in the industry and I've never once seen a PM say "you know what, let's take a sprint off and fix our technical debt." Nope, just keep sprinting until your knees give out!
