The evolution of gaming expectations in a nutshell. Back in the '90s, gamers were just happy if the cartridge actually loaded without blowing into it three times. "The game runs? Amazing! 10/10 would play again." Fast forward to 2020s where we've got RGB-lit gaming rigs that could probably run NASA simulations, and gamers are having existential crises because their FPS dropped from 167 to 165—a difference literally imperceptible to the human eye. The contrast is beautiful: a chunky CRT monitor on a wooden desk versus a curved ultrawide with a glass panel PC showing off its RGB fans. We went from "it works!" to obsessively monitoring frame times and getting tilted over 2 FPS drops. The hardware got exponentially better, but somehow our tolerance for imperfection got exponentially worse. Welcome to the future, where your $3000 setup still isn't good enough for your anxiety.

OH. MY. GOD. The AUDACITY of game developers in 2023! 💀 There you are, innocently browsing Steam for some summer gaming bliss, when suddenly—BAM!—you're slapped in the face with system requirements that might as well say "Sorry, peasant, go buy NASA's supercomputer first." Your pathetic little potato PC is sitting in the corner, practically weeping while the shiny new games flaunt their need for 32GB RAM, the latest GPU that costs more than your rent, and storage space that could fit the entire Library of Congress. Meanwhile, your 5-year-old graphics card is having an existential crisis just trying to render the game's TRAILER. The gaming industry has basically created a caste system where your hardware determines if you're royalty or a street urchin begging for frames per second!

When you finally upgrade from a crusty old HDD to an SSD and your entire computer boots up in 8 seconds instead of 8 minutes, you realize you've been living in the Stone Age this whole time. Your IDE launches before you can even blink. Your projects compile faster than you can say "npm install". Everything is SO FAST that you start questioning every life decision that led you to suffer with spinning platters for so long. Money can't buy time? Well sweetie, it just bought you back approximately 47 hours per week that you used to spend staring at loading screens. The transformation is so dramatic you feel personally victimized by every tech YouTuber who told you SSDs were "just a nice-to-have upgrade."

The only machine most of us are comfortable with has Intel inside, not iron plates. When the gym bro asks "which machine are you comfortable with?" he's expecting treadmill or bench press—not a programmer pointing at their laptop. Twenty years in tech and my biceps are still just from carrying the weight of legacy code and broken promises. The strongest muscle in my body is whatever lets me ctrl+c/ctrl+v for 8 hours straight.

Behold, the Iron Throne for developers—forged from the fallen warriors of a thousand code battles. Each keyboard represents a different project where someone rage-quit after the 47th merge conflict, or that one time someone spilled coffee during a production hotfix. The senior dev who sits upon this throne has earned their stripes through countless Ctrl+Z's, survived the great Tab vs Spaces war, and probably still has PTSD from that legacy codebase written in PHP 4. Notice how they're all membrane keyboards too—the true mark of corporate suffering. Not a single mechanical keyboard in sight, which means this throne was built from the keyboards of developers who worked in open offices and weren't allowed to bring their clicky-clacky Cherry MX Blues from home. The armrests wrapped in keyboards are a nice touch though—maximum ergonomic dysfunction for that authentic developer posture.

Customer complains their PC shuts down after a few seconds. Tech opens the case to find what can only be described as a crime scene: the CPU cooler has been replaced with actual kitchen utensils. Someone took "Do It Yourself" way too literally and decided that a comb and some butter knives would make excellent thermal management solutions. Spoiler alert: they don't. The CPU probably hit thermal throttling faster than you can say "thermal paste." Pretty sure the PC was just trying to protect itself from this abomination by shutting down. Can't blame it, honestly.
