Running Out Of RAM On 64 GB Is Crazy

The eternal C++ struggle summed up in one painful exchange. You spend an hour debugging a function that seemingly does nothing, only to realize the horrifying truth - you never actually called it. Just declared it and walked away like it would magically execute itself. The worst part? This happens to 10-year veterans as often as day-one beginners. Nothing quite matches that special feeling of wanting to throw your mechanical keyboard through a window after realizing your carefully crafted game physics engine isn't running because you forgot the parentheses.

Steam announces "PC 2" and gamers everywhere are SLEEPING through the announcement... until they mention 8GB VRAM and suddenly everyone's eyes bulge out of their skulls! 💀 8GB of video memory in 2023?! Are we building a gaming PC or a CALCULATOR?! Modern games are out here demanding 12GB minimum while Steam's over here acting like they invented fire with their pathetic offering. The audacity! The betrayal! The sheer MEDIOCRITY of it all! For the price they're probably charging, you'd expect at least enough VRAM to render more than two blades of grass without catching fire. But I guess we're supposed to be grateful for technology that was cutting-edge... five years ago. 🙄

The GPU market is basically a tragicomedy at this point. First panel: "NVIDIA is anti-customer" - yet we keep throwing money at them for those sweet, sweet frame rates. Second panel: "AMD is anti-customer" - but hey, at least they're slightly cheaper while they gouge us! Third panel: "Intel Arc is our only hope!!" - that moment of desperate optimism when you're willing to believe a newcomer will save us all. Fourth panel: Reality check - market share shows NVIDIA at 94%, AMD at 6%, Intel at 0%. The invisible hand of the market is giving us all the middle finger while we complain on Reddit and still buy the next overpriced GPU anyway.

Left: Game dev crying because Unity changed their pricing model and now they need a second mortgage to make a 2D platformer. Right: The bearded C++ developer who's been writing their own engine since 2003 and still hasn't released a game, but boy does that skybox rendering look crisp. It's the classic tradeoff - use a commercial engine and get destroyed by licensing fees, or build your own and get destroyed by feature creep. Either way, your game is never shipping.

The indie game development struggle in one perfect Spider-Man meme. When a highly anticipated game like Silksong (the sequel to Hollow Knight) announces its release, smaller developers go from cursing its existence to thanking it for the spotlight spillover. That wasp-headed Spider-Man is basically every tiny game studio realizing they can ride the coattails of a major release to get visibility on Steam's front page. It's the digital equivalent of opening your lemonade stand next to a Taylor Swift concert and hoping people get thirsty on their way in.

Oh. My. GOD. The absolute AUDACITY of solo game developers! 💅 One minute they're drowning in a sea of basic coding errors that a toddler could fix, and the next they're strutting around telling friends they're "professional game developers." THE DUALITY! It's like wearing a designer outfit while your apartment is literally on fire. The confidence! The delusion! The sheer DRAMA of pretending you know what you're doing when your code is held together with digital duct tape and prayers! And yet, we stan a delusional king/queen. Because honestly, without that unhinged optimism, would ANY indie games ever get finished? I think NOT.
