Game devs really out here rendering every individual blade of grass in 8K HDR with ray-traced shadows while their game runs at 12 FPS on a $3000 GPU. Sure, your Nanite forest looks absolutely stunning, but maybe—just maybe—players would appreciate being able to actually play the game without their PC sounding like a jet engine taking off.
Unreal Engine 5's Nanite tech lets you throw billions of polygons at the screen without the traditional performance hit, which apparently translates to "challenge accepted" for devs who immediately max it out. Meanwhile, optimization is standing there like a neglected partner wondering why nobody wants to spend time with her anymore. Spoiler alert: because she's boring and requires actual work.
The title really captures the exhaustion of every gamer's GPU desperately trying to render that photorealistic moss that literally nobody asked for.
