VLC is that one friend who shows up to your party and just... handles everything. Obscure codec from 2003? No problem. File extension you've never seen before? Already playing. Video format that makes Windows Media Player cry? VLC just shrugs and gets to work.
While other media players are out here acting all bougie with their "codec not supported" error messages, VLC is the absolute chad that plays literally anything you throw at it. It's the Swiss Army knife of video players, except instead of a tiny scissor and toothpick, it has support for every video format known to humanity (and probably a few alien ones too).
The traffic cone icon is basically a badge of honor at this point. Been saving developers' butts since 2001.
