Placeholder Memes

You know that gray cube with "TEMP_TEXTURE.png" you dropped in during prototyping? Yeah, that's now a core part of your game's aesthetic. What started as a quick placeholder to test lighting became so embedded in your codebase that replacing it would require refactoring half your asset pipeline. The real comedy here is the retreat. Skeletor confidently announces the problem, then immediately nopes out before dealing with it. Classic game dev move: acknowledge the technical debt exists, promise to fix it "next sprint," then quietly ship it to production. Players probably think it's an intentional design choice at this point. Eight months is rookie numbers though. Some placeholder assets have been known to survive entire release cycles, DLCs, and even sequels. They're not bugs anymore—they're features with tenure.
