The transition from "I know three tools and I'm thriving" to "I need 15 different AI assistants just to write a for-loop" is painfully real. By 2026, we'll all just be professional prompt engineers with permanent frowns, desperately trying to remember which AI tool was best for fixing that one specific bug that the other AI tool created. Someone's offering you a brain but you're like "nah, I'm good" because you've got AI to do the thinking for you. The irony here is chef's kiss—rejecting actual cognitive function in favor of letting ChatGPT write your code. We've reached peak efficiency: why learn algorithms when you can just prompt engineer your way through life? Your rubber duck debugging sessions have been replaced by asking GPT to fix your bugs while you pretend to understand the solution it spits out. The brain is literally being rejected at the door while AI gets the VIP pass.

Look at that Windows XP desktop with the alien head UI and Winamp visualizer going full psychedelic. Someone really sat down with Visual Basic or whatever cursed toolkit was popular back then and crafted this masterpiece pixel by pixel. Now we're all out here asking Claude to "make the logo bigger" and "center a div" while developers in the early 2000s were building entire alien-themed media players without autocomplete, Stack Overflow, or an AI to hold their hand. They just had MSDN documentation, determination, and probably way too much Mountain Dew. The real question isn't how they built it—it's how we've regressed to the point where we can't build a contact form without asking an LLM for help three times.

So the top downloaded free app right now is Claude, followed by ChatGPT and Google Gemini. Sandwiched between them at #3? DICK'S Sporting Goods. Because apparently when people aren't asking AI to debug their code or write their emails, they're shopping for sneakers and camping gear. The AI arms race has gotten so intense that three different LLMs are dominating the app store charts, but somehow a sporting goods retailer managed to wedge itself right in the middle. Maybe people need athletic equipment to physically run away from their AI-generated code suggestions. Or maybe they're just buying gear to touch grass after spending 12 hours arguing with Claude about TypeScript types. The real winner here is DICK'S marketing team, who somehow convinced people that shopping for workout clothes is more urgent than downloading Google's AI assistant.

OpenAI announces they've achieved AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), and their proof? A GitHub repo with 5,000+ open issues. Nothing screams "superintelligent AI capable of solving any human task" quite like a massive backlog of unresolved bugs and feature requests. The irony is chef's kiss—true AGI would probably start by closing its own issues, but here we are with a repo that looks like every other abandoned side project. If this is AGI, then my personal projects with 47 unread notifications are basically sentient beings at this point.

The joke's on us. We're staring at a pretty gradient expecting to see horrific AI-generated code, but the real punchline is that the gradient is the code.
