I Invested 1000 Hours Mastering Regex

That awkward moment when IT forgets to revoke your Slack access after firing you, and now you're lurking in the shadows like Goku plotting his revenge. Time to watch your ex-coworkers panic when you drop the "I can see all your messages about the production server being down" bomb. Nothing says professional closure like witnessing your replacement struggle with the codebase you deliberately left undocumented. Digital ghost mode: ACTIVATED .

Back in 2016, a Computer Science degree was basically a golden ticket—ornate, prestigious, and practically guaranteed to land you a cushy job. Fast forward to 2026, and that same degree is just... there. Duct-taped to reality, barely holding on, looking significantly less impressive. The job market went from "we'll pay you six figures to center a div" to "you need 5 years of experience, three side projects, and a viral GitHub repo just to get ghosted by recruiters." The degree didn't change—the world did. Now everyone and their grandma can code (thanks, bootcamps and ChatGPT), so that fancy CS diploma is competing with self-taught devs who built an entire SaaS in their basement. The contrast is brutal: from majestic carved dragon to regular dog with a backpack. Still a good boy, just... not as mythical anymore.

Imagine raising TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS to build your SaaS empire, only to discover your internal team slapped together the same tool in 14 days using duct tape and caffeine. The sheer AUDACITY of that excited developer on the left, proudly announcing they "vibe coded" a solution while the VC-funded founder sits there contemplating every life choice that led to this moment. Plot twist: that internal tool is probably held together by a single SQL query, three bash scripts, and pure spite—but hey, it works! Meanwhile, the $200M version is still in its third sprint planning meeting discussing whether to use microservices or a monolith. The real tragedy? The internal tool will become production because "it's just temporary" (narrator: it was never temporary). Fast forward 2 months and that vibe-coded masterpiece is now the company's core infrastructure with zero documentation, no tests, and the original developer just gave their two weeks notice. Godspeed! 🫡

The perfect metaphor for web architecture doesn't exi-- Backend: Three people cooking in primitive conditions with giant pots over open flames. The unsung heroes doing the actual heavy lifting while covered in sweat and smoke. Frontend: A polished restaurant interior with mood lighting and fancy tables. Looks great but completely useless without the backend's cooking. APIs: The waitstaff in formal attire carrying food from kitchen to table. They don't make anything themselves but get all the tips for simply transferring data between systems. And somehow management still wonders why backend developers are always grumpy.

The five stages of grief hit differently when reviewing your own code from yesterday. First comes the nervous finger-biting, then the slow realization, followed by the blank stare of disbelief, then the "oh god what have I done" face-palm, and finally the existential horror of knowing you have to fix whatever abomination you unleashed. The worst part? You were probably so proud of that "clever" solution when you wrote it. Ten hours and three coffees later, and suddenly you're archaeologist of your own terrible decisions.
