My Interpretation Of The Console Wars Thus Far

EMERGENCY MEDICAL ALERT: Gamers suffering from severe hardware deficiency! The classic stroke symptoms have evolved - now including the terrifying ability to brag about running Borderlands 4 at 60 FPS on a 5090 graphics card that doesn't even exist yet ! 💀 The only treatment? Selling your kidney for the next GPU or accepting that your pathetic 30 FPS life is basically the computing equivalent of the Stone Age. Thoughts and prayers for all PC gamers with last year's "obsolete" $2000 setup! 🙏

The RTX 4090 costs more than some people's monthly rent, so naturally the path to owning one involves a diet that would make a college student's ramen budget look luxurious. Plain rice with what appears to be soy sauce as the "main course" – because who needs protein or vegetables when you're about to render 4K at 240fps? The dedication is real though. Day 3 and they're already eating like they're speedrunning malnutrition. By day 30, they'll probably be photosynthesizing. But hey, priorities are priorities – you can't put a price on being able to play Cyberpunk 2077 with all ray tracing settings maxed out while your stomach growls in Dolby Atmos. Fun fact: The RTX 4090 draws about 450W of power. That's enough electricity to cook actual food, but where's the fun in that when you can use it to make virtual lighting look slightly more realistic?

Six years ago, someone had a revolutionary VR game idea that was basically "Destiny meets Pokemon meets Yu-gi-oh" and then... stopped after typing "You start with a base character." That's it. That's the entire design document. The cursor is still blinking there, frozen in time, waiting for the rest of the idea that never came. We've all been there—that moment of pure inspiration where you're gonna make THE game that changes everything, and then reality hits and you realize game design is actually hard. Or you got distracted by literally anything else. The fact they're asking if it "could still work" is chef's kiss. Like yeah buddy, just pitch "Destiny + Pokemon + Yu-gi-oh" to investors and watch them throw money at you. Who needs details like gameplay mechanics, progression systems, or literally any other information? Pro tip: Every game dev has a folder like this. Mine has 47 text files all titled some variation of "BEST GAME IDEA EVER.txt" with equally impressive levels of detail.

Congrats on escaping the corporate prison! Now you're in a self-imposed solitary confinement with no weekends, no benefits, and a boss who never stops pushing deadlines (it's you). That dream of making the next Stardew Valley quickly transforms into debugging collision detection at 3AM while your Steam backlog grows and your social life withers. The irony of trading 40 hours of structured misery for 168 hours of chaotic passion is just *chef's kiss*. But hey, at least your commute is shorter and pants are optional.

Nothing says "ship it" quite like discovering a physics-defying bug in your fighting game on Friday evening and collectively deciding that ignorance is bliss. The CPU is literally levitating during air-guard animations—probably because someone forgot to disable collision detection or the animation state machine is overriding the physics engine. But hey, it's 5 PM on Friday, the build needs to go out, and honestly? If players don't notice their character doing the moonwalk mid-combo, does it even count as a bug? The QA team probably flagged it as "low priority - cosmetic issue" while internally screaming. Classic "works on my machine" energy meets "we'll fix it in post-launch patch" optimism. Ship now, debug later—the gamedev motto.

Left side: "My code is self-documenting!!" with a sketch of someone looking distressed at the lowest end of the IQ bell curve. Middle: Actual documentation with detailed comments about monster attack algorithms in a game. Right side: Someone who just writes "// this is bridge" next to a drawing of a bridge, sitting at the other low end of the IQ curve. The perfect balance? The 130+ IQ person with comprehensive, helpful comments that actually explain the why behind complex game logic. The eternal developer struggle: write no comments and claim "self-documenting code," write useless comments stating the obvious, or be the rare specimen who documents the intent and reasoning. Most of us oscillate between all three depending on how much coffee we've had.
