Any Other Definition Is Wrong

Meta spent $13 billion on their "Horizon" metaverse and all they got was avatars that look like they were rendered on a potato. "Legs are coming soon!" is the kind of feature announcement you'd expect from a game in 2003, not something that cost twice Electronic Arts' annual revenue. At this rate, Mark's going to need another $50 billion just to add eyebrows that don't look haunted. Meanwhile, The Sims 3 from 2009 is over here with fully functioning humans that can already woohoo in hot tubs.

Game engines: either drowning in endless menus or making you frantically jump through hoops to accomplish basic tasks. The comic nails it by sorting them into just two categories - "menus" (looking at you, Unity) or "parkour" (hello, Unreal). Anyone who's tried to find that one specific setting buried in Unity's seventeen nested dropdown menus knows the pain. Meanwhile, Unreal devs are performing mental gymnastics just to implement a simple "Hello World" blueprint. And poor Unity, getting called out for "jumping around a lot" yet still being classified as "menus" - the ultimate burn for an engine trying so hard to be developer-friendly. It's like being told you dance like a spreadsheet.

When your game developer friend says they're "fine-tuning weapon accuracy" but you peek at their code and find they're just plotting random points in a slightly oval shape. The subtle art of making guns miss on purpose - because if players could actually aim, they'd finish the game too quickly. Those Vector3 coordinates aren't simulating complex ballistics or accounting for wind resistance - they're just saying "bullets go somewhere in this general area, good luck hitting anything."

The GPU upgrade cycle strikes again! On the left, we have the poor souls who panic-sold their RTX 4090 graphics cards before the 5090 launch, sitting in a dark, depressing cave view. Meanwhile, the smug gamer on the right who held onto their 4090 is enjoying a gorgeous sunset vista. Classic case of tech FOMO backfiring. Turns out the "free upgrade" to 5090 was just Nvidia's marketing department playing 4D chess with our wallets again. Those 4090s are still absolute beasts, and now the sellers are stuck with regret and probably a lighter bank account. The circle of GPU life continues: buy expensive card, panic when new one is announced, sell at a loss, repeat until retirement fund is depleted.

The digital hoarding phenomenon strikes again! That sweet dopamine hit from clicking "Purchase" during Steam sales is vastly superior to the actual commitment of downloading and playing the games. My Steam library has more unplayed titles than a bookshelf at an illiterate's house. It's basically a digital museum of good intentions at this point. The backlog grows faster than technical debt in a startup with no code reviews.
