This 1997 ad is basically a prophecy carved in stone. Some marketing genius accidentally predicted the entire DevOps revolution where we automated ourselves into existential dread. The irony is CHEF'S KISS – they were selling computers while simultaneously threatening IT departments with their own obsolescence. Fast forward to 2024 and we've got Kubernetes clusters that require a PhD to manage, CI/CD pipelines that break if you look at them wrong, and AI tools writing code that still needs three senior developers to review. The computers got easier to manage alright, and now we need entire teams of SREs, DevOps engineers, and cloud architects just to keep the "easy" stuff running. The guy in the photo looks way too relaxed for someone who just automated his entire department out of existence.
