Clever Girl Deployed On Friday

Your laptop is just vibing, minding its own business, running like a champ. Then Chrome decides to casually install some random 4GB AI model you absolutely did NOT consent to, and suddenly your machine is getting OBLITERATED like a school bus getting absolutely demolished by a freight train. The sheer AUDACITY of Chrome treating your RAM like it's an all-you-can-eat buffet while you're just trying to keep 47 tabs open for "research purposes." RIP to your laptop's will to live.

OpenAI out here defending their AI training on copyrighted material by saying the race is "over" if they can't use it. Meanwhile, they're getting roasted with the car thief analogy: "10/10 car thieves agree laws are not good for business." The irony is chef's kiss. Tech companies built entire empires on intellectual property protection, patents, and licensing agreements. But suddenly when they need everyone else's data to train their models, copyright is just an inconvenient speed bump on the innovation highway. It's like watching someone argue that stealing is actually just "unauthorized borrowing for the greater good of transportation efficiency." Sure buddy, and my git commits are just "collaborative code redistribution."

That moment when ChatGPT confidently gives you code that looks perfect but introduces five new bugs because it's stuck in 2021 while you're using the bleeding edge framework version. Nothing like the special migraine that comes from AI trying to help but actually making your codebase look like it went through a blender. Stack Overflow veterans would've just called you an idiot and linked to the docs, but at least their solution would've worked.

That first hit of AI-generated code feels like pure magic. "Look at all this productivity!" Then reality sets in. What AI gives you in quantity, you pay back with interest in quality control. Sure, it wrote 10,000 lines in minutes, but now you're the poor soul who has to untangle that algorithmic spaghetti, patch the security holes big enough to drive a truck through, and explain to management why the project timeline just went from "done" to "we're just getting started." The hidden tax of instant code is always paid in developer tears.

So you've used ChatGPT so much that you've essentially trained a mental model of it in your own brain. Congrats, you've become the thing you sought to replace your thinking with. The irony here is beautiful—instead of offloading cognitive work to AI, you're now running inference on a ChatGPT simulator inside your head, complete with its overly polite, unnecessarily verbose responses about why your cat is meowing. The best part? Your internal ChatGPT apparently gives you the same energy as the real one: "If your cat is scratching on the door and meowing it probably means she wants to be let out, let me know if you need anything else!" Brother, you just spent more mental cycles simulating an LLM response than it would've taken to just... open the door for the cat. You've basically implemented a wrapper around common sense and called it AI. Ship it to production.

So we went from "Wikipedia isn't credible, cite peer-reviewed sources" to "just hallucinate an answer from an LLM trained on Reddit comments." The irony is so thick you could deploy it in a Docker container. Teachers spent decades drilling into us that Wikipedia was the devil's encyclopedia, meanwhile ChatGPT is out here confidently making up citations and historical events with the same energy as a junior dev explaining their code in a PR review. At least Wikipedia had the decency to show you the [citation needed] tags. Now we're supposed to trust a black box that occasionally insists that 2+2=5 if you ask it nicely enough. The same people who wouldn't let you cite Wikipedia for a high school essay are now asking ChatGPT to write their production code. What a time to be alive.
