The evolution of a developer's paranoia in three stages: Peasant tier: Using the mouse to highlight, right-click, and select copy/paste like some kind of digital caveman. Intermediate tier: Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V keyboard shortcuts. Efficient. Respectable. Enlightened tier: Ctrl+C pressed five times followed by Ctrl+V because the clipboard has betrayed you too many times before. Trust nothing. Verify everything. The real senior developers don't even trust their own keyboard inputs anymore. Not after... the incident .

JavaScript developers really woke up one day and said "Let's create four different ways to declare variables, each with subtly different rules that will absolutely destroy newcomers' sanity." And then they had the audacity to add const const which is technically valid syntax. The real horror is that last example where var var lets you mutate your string into whatever Lovecraftian nightmare you want. No wonder half of Stack Overflow is just people asking "why doesn't my variable work?" Ten years of experience and I still occasionally get bitten by this nonsense.

The Empire (management) questions why anyone would still use Java 8 in 2023, while the Jedi (developer) just wants to be left alone with their stable, predictable codebase. No security patches? No problem. Legacy code doesn't care about your fancy new features when it's been running flawlessly since 2014. The dark side is tempting with its shiny Java 21 virtual threads, but some of us prefer our ancient garbage collector and reliable NullPointerExceptions just where we expect them.
