Pre-order Memes

The orangutan just delivered a critical hit with flawless logic. Pre-ordering digital games makes about as much sense as reserving a seat on an infinite bus. There's no scarcity, no shelf space, no limited stock—just you handing over money months in advance for a product that might ship broken and need a day-one patch the size of the actual game. It's like paying for a promise in an industry where "release" and "beta testing with paying customers" have become synonyms. The ape understands basic supply and demand better than most gamers. Bits don't run out, friend. They're infinitely reproducible. That's literally the whole point of digital distribution. But hey, gotta get those pre-order bonuses—a cosmetic skin and the privilege of being the first to discover game-breaking bugs.

The gaming industry's pricing strategy in a nutshell. Pre-ordering a game at full price only to watch it get a 30% discount a week after launch is the ultimate clown transformation. That $90 Super Deluxe Edition with "exclusive DRM" is just the circus music getting louder. The real game is waiting six months for the inevitable 70% off sale while your friends who pre-ordered are still dealing with day-one patches. Veterans know the drill: patient gamers always win, but we still somehow end up with rainbow wigs in our Steam libraries.
