You spend 3 hours troubleshooting a critical Windows issue, finally break down and post on the forums, and some "verified support engineer" with 2 posts to their name suggests running SFC /SCANNOW - the digital equivalent of "have you tried turning it off and on again?" It's the universal band-aid that fixes absolutely nothing 99% of the time, but they'll make you run it anyway before offering any actual help.
