Man In The Middle Attack
So someone at the IETF had too much time on April Fools' Day 1990 and decided to write RFC 1149 proposing we use homing pigeons to carry IP packets. Fast forward to today, and we've got a Wikipedia article showing a literal man standing in the middle of a flock of pigeons as an "example of a man-in-the-middle attack." The joke works on two levels: First, it's taking the IPoAC (IP over Avian Carriers) concept literally—those pigeons ARE the network infrastructure. Second, that random dude feeding birds is technically intercepting the communication layer between sender and receiver. He's literally a man, literally in the middle, literally attacking (well, feeding) the carrier pigeons. Security researchers spend years studying sophisticated MITM attacks involving SSL stripping and ARP spoofing, but sometimes the best attack vector is just... standing there with breadcrumbs. The latency is terrible but the pun game is unmatched.
