Can't Forget That Declaration

The magical incantation we all copy-paste at the top of our HTML files! Just like adding salt to soup, we throw in <!DOCTYPE html> without questioning why. Is it summoning the browser gods? Preventing IE6 from having a meltdown? Who knows! But skip it once and suddenly your perfectly valid webpage renders like it's 1999.
