France really just looked at the entire planet using Gigabyte (GB) for storage and said "nah, we're built different" and created the Gigaoctet (GO) . The sheer audacity of inventing your own unit abbreviation when literally everyone else has agreed on a standard is chef's kiss levels of French independence. For context: In French, "byte" translates to "octet" (because it's 8 bits, and "octo" means eight). So while the rest of us are buying 500GB SSDs, the French are out here purchasing 500GO drives. It's technically correct but also hilariously stubborn. Imagine being the one developer on an international team who has to convert GO to GB in documentation because France refuses to compromise.
