Gamers will complain about their 9-to-5 being repetitive and soul-crushing, then go home and spend 8 hours clicking the same mining nodes in an MMO or driving a virtual forklift in a warehouse simulator. The cognitive dissonance is real. At least in Euro Truck Simulator, nobody emails you asking why the shipment is late or schedules a standup meeting at 9 AM to discuss your delivery velocity metrics. The difference? One pays your rent, the other gives you achievement notifications and dopamine hits. Turns out humans will do literally anything if you add a progress bar and some XP points to it. Game developers figured out what management consultants never could: gamification actually works when the game is optional .

RPGs Are The Best!
You know you've spent too much time in RPGs when a 1% damage increase feels like finding the Holy Grail. Ten minutes from now you'll find a legendary drop that makes your current weapon look like a butter knife, but right now? Right now we're excited about decimal points. It's the same energy as spending three hours optimizing code that saves 0.2 milliseconds on an endpoint that gets hit twice a day. We chase these marginal gains like they're venture capital funding, fully knowing they're completely meaningless in the grand scheme. But hey, numbers go up, dopamine goes brrr. The real kicker? We'll spend hours min-maxing our character builds but can't be bothered to refactor that nested if-statement nightmare we wrote last Tuesday.
