When I was invited in a meeting with seniors having 20 years of experience.

Content Robert Sweeney 3rd CEO at Facet - Technical recruiting as a service Follow 2d 4 One day at Netflix my manager dropped into my office and said, "You're getting a raise today!" I had only been at Netflix for a few months so I wasn't expecting a raise any time soon. "Cool! But why?" I asked. His response is an example of why I loved working at Netflix. "We just hired a new Senior Software Engineer on our team and he negotiated a higher salary than what we're paying you. So we are increasing your salary to match." If you have to pay more to hire new employees that means the market has gone up and your current employees need a raise to match. Don't punish loyal employees for sticking with you by allowing their compensation to fall behind the market.

The eternal developer dilemma depicted as a fork in the road! On the left path, there's a magical castle bathed in sunshine with the promise of "HERE'S A PACKAGE THAT DOES IT FOR YOU" – the dream scenario where someone else already solved your problem. On the right path, dark storm clouds and lightning with "YOU'RE PUSHING THE LIMITS OF MODERN MATHEMATICS" – what happens when you stubbornly decide to implement that "simple feature" yourself. Every developer knows that moment of existential crisis: do I spend 5 minutes installing a dependency that solves my problem, or 5 days reinventing the wheel while accidentally stumbling into computer science research territory? The sign at the bottom pointing to "ADDING A NEW FEATURE" is the trigger for this whole mental breakdown. The irony? We almost always start down the right path anyway. Because surely our implementation will be better, cleaner, and more efficient than that 10,000-star GitHub repo maintained by 47 senior engineers for the past decade...

Dad's dropping wisdom bombs over here. Using portable versions of apps means no installation bloat, no registry pollution, no leftover files scattered across AppData like digital confetti. Just pure, unadulterated executables living in their own folders like well-behaved citizens. Your system stays pristine while normies are out here installing seventeen different versions of Chrome because they forgot they already have it. Plus, you can throw your entire setup on a USB drive and carry your digital life around like some kind of tech nomad. Dad gets it.

Someone just visualized the Unix pipe operator in the most literal way possible. The command peel apple.txt | bunny is taking the output from peeling an apple and piping it directly into a bunny. In shell scripting, the pipe | redirects stdout from one command to stdin of another, but here it's just... feeding a rabbit. The precision of this visual metaphor is chef's kiss—you're literally taking the stream of peeled apple and redirecting it to the bunny process, which appears to be consuming it in real-time. No buffering, no intermediate files, just pure streaming I/O. The bunny's throughput seems pretty good too.
