Watermarking Memes

Anthropic really thought they were being clever by watermarking Claude's output to prevent misuse. Fast forward to today, and developers are literally asking Claude to remove... Claude's watermark. The irony is chef's kiss. It's like building a security system and then realizing the burglar can just ask the security system politely to turn itself off. Claude became the very thing it was supposed to destroy—using its own intelligence to outsmart the safeguards built into it. The AI equivalent of "I used the stones to destroy the stones." Nothing says "we didn't think this through" quite like your anti-plagiarism measure being defeated by the thing you're trying to protect against. It's the digital version of a snake eating its own tail, except the snake has a PhD in computer science.
