[text] Tired of failing Data Science interviews for being a real Statistician and not a CS tryhard Google 50 Q Yesterday 46 Comments 1 am a Statistician. have a grad degree in Stats. Not a grad degree in Analytics or Physics or Computer Science a grad degree in Stats. Biostats Operations Research and Econometrics are cool though. build models properly. If you dont have a grad degree in Stats your models suck. No two ways about it. There are dozens of things you dont know to test and control for and your model is wildly inaccurate. Outside of CV and NLP you are an absolute joke. Youre a SWE Good for you. But thats a completely different skillset with little overlap. Akin to a Pharmacist performing surgery. 1 go to interviews with top companies and get rejected for giving an answer that is too right. explain it perfectly vs its alternatives and give all of the context needed. Then some SWE pretending to be a Statistician fails me because they dont know what Im talking about they want a crappy DL model because they dont have a clue. Apple Facebook Netflix Amazon LinkedIn OpenAl etc. All have failed me in DS interviews despite perfect performances. All filled with CS tryhards. Even the HFTs are infested with CS dweebs who dont have a clue about DS. 2Sigma was asking me SWE questions in a Quant interview ffs. Google is my only option there is nowhere else for me to go to be a real Statistician believe me Ive tried. Sucks knowing when you hit your ceiling and there is no alternative. Half of the Google DSs are now a joke too have weaseled their way into convincing morons that they know what they are talking about. Sadly these are the ones that politic into management and hire those of their ilk into the ranks in order to build their empires.
